River Loft, New York, NY

LEARN MORE X

New York, NY

RYA gut renovated what was once a cramped and uninviting space with many smaller rooms that blocked natural light into a space with an open the floorplan to create opportunities to highlight the space’s remarkable riverfront views. Lightly stained wood floors throughout the residence provide warmth and make different spaces cohere, while a wall covered in the same wood signals the private areas of the dwelling and provides additional storage opportunities. Newly formed communal spaces for eating and socializing fit comfortably in the brightest areas of the apartment, contributing to the calming and comforting sensibilities of the space. The design also embraces inherent elements of the space, like a centrally positioned concrete column, which inform the palette of materials throughout. The serene environment mirrors that of the neighboring river, and provides his clients with a home that prioritizes the human experience. By framing views of the skyline and the river, the design incorporates the energy of New York City, but warm, natural materials create a tranquil retreat.
