The house’s curve is calibrated to the sun’s path, maximizing shade in the summer months, while offering a variety of framed views to the expansive meadows and the Atlantic Ocean.

With a building envelope that approaches Passive House standards, Young optimized the energy profile of this vacation home.

Martha's Vineyard, MA

For this Martha’s Vineyard home, RYA created an environment that would work in multiple ways: as a year-round retreat for a couple, and as a place to comfortably gather a large extended family during the busier summer months. To do that, the interior is configured in such a way that the couple could be there on their own without it seeming out of scale. Designed to optimize environmental performance, the orientation and shape of the house maximizes shade during the summer months and frames views to the surrounding meadows and the Atlantic Ocean.
