Kettle Hole House, East Hampton, NY
East Hampton, NY
This East Hampton house is an early example of one of many creative rehabilitation of an existing structure RYA completed early in the firm’s history. Rather than raze the original home, built in the 1980s, RYA saw design opportunity in reinventing the outdated house and making it what it could have been when it was first built. The strategy focused on connecting the structure to its surrounding landscape, with interiors illuminated by coastal sunshine and with views out to the forested site. To do this, the architectural team introduced new windows that opened up what had been predominantly solid facades.
