Architect Robert Young describes his latest project as “the opposite of a mansion,” but that doesn’t mean it’s not enviable. The project spans two lakeside properties in Montauk, New York and is the perfect mix between modern design and rustic lakehouse charm.

One building is the main home, while other doubles as a guest house and a garage-meets-boathouse, which Young’s eponymous firm says “leaves space in the center of the property, creating an unobtrusive scale.”

Both interiors are designed minimally, with a focus on opening the space to the outdoors and maximizing light. What’s more, the project is built with natural materials such as untreated cedar and bronze hardware, which are designed to age gracefully over time.
